Great Lake Swimming

Judging by my last blog entry, it’s little wonder that I was super excited about getting out-of-town for 4th July weekend. I ended up in Monmouth, Maine with my friend Ashleigh’s wonderful family, in a cabin by Lake Cochnewagon.
But it wasn’t just the serene, pretty-tree-and-lake-filled getaway I was looking for - it was also a wonderful, quintessentially American experience. Not only did we spend 4th July fishing and eating BBQ (both activities being more universal than American), we also made smores, lit sparklers and the Cabin’s neighbours set off fireworks. There was an amazing boat parade across the lake where the inhabitants dressed their boats up in American flags and let off some good old American Pride. And the clincher? The local eagle flying around all weekend. When I first spotted it, I thought my eyes were deceiving me but no - there it was - a good ol’ American Eagle.
